Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)

Shock Wave Therapy is a non-invasive and highly effective treatment where pulses of kinetic energy (shocks) are applied to the injured area to promote healing via:

  • Reduction of pain by reducing nerve impulses.
  • Increase of blood circulation in surrounding tissue.
  • Beginning the healing process through stem cells activation.
  • Reversal of chronic inflammation.
  • Release of trigger points.

Whats Involved?

Treatment One

At the initial consultation our podiatrist will take a full medical & medication history to assure you are suitable for the treatment.

We then examine the verrucae and/or warts to classify their type and the location to give our patients a clear indication of the number of SWIFT applications needed to treat the verrucas and / or warts.

At this point we fully explain how the treatment will work and feel and our patients have an informed choice whether they want to proceed with the treatment.

If a patient or practitioner feels that SWIFT therapy is unsuitable at the first appointment –no consultation fee will be charged.

If agreeable, the overlying callus (hard skin), if any, is gently removed and the verrucae / wart is treated with a an non-invasive pulse of microwave heat.

The treatment is quick, painful but effective.

The benefit is that you will not need any dressings or to keep your foot dry and you can resume normal pain free activity from the minute the treatment is complete.

Treatment Two

The second treatment is performed 4 weeks after the first.

Our podiatrist will review your medication and medical history and assess the verrucae and / or warts treated to look for improvement.

See the images above to see the typical improvement after 4 weeks.

All the verrucas and warts are then treated again with SWIFT and the patient is able to return to normal activity without pain or dressings.

Treatment Three

Treatment three is carried out 4 weeks after the second, and in most cases this is the final treatment.

Again, our podiatrist will review your medication and medical history and assess the verrucae and / or warts treated to look for improvement.

See the images above to see the typical improvement after 8 -12 weeks.

All the verrucas and warts are then treated again with SWIFT and the patient is re-booked for a final assessment in 12 weeks.

Note – should a forth treatment be required – this will be carried out at the final assessment appointment at no extra charge.
